An expedition led by Dr. Tarkovsky ventures into the taiga to learn about the meteorite and its impact on the land, driven by a thirst for adventure. Privately funded by heroes from the war, their expeditions to Siberia aim to uncover artifacts, overcome challenges, and ultimately achieve glory.

In the game, players must utilize their cards to gain power, guile, and unique worker abilities. By moving their mechs to mysterious locations, they can acquire cards found among the tiles. Further enhancing their mechs through the use of workers, items, meteorites, and quests, players can then leverage their power and guile to vanquish corruption.

For a solo experience, the game features an Automa that simulates an opponent, allowing players to compete against it while their own gameplay remains unchanged. On the Automa's turn, players simply flip a card to see what action it takes.

The game is straightforward to teach and learn, requiring only some prior board game knowledge. After a brief rules video, players can quickly immerse themselves in the various paths to victory.

Expeditions takes place in a richly developed alternate reality, featuring beautiful 1920+ artwork by JakubRozalski (Iron Harvest). The game design is the work of Jamey Stegmaier (Viticulture), who has seamlessly integrated the thematic mechanisms into the gameplay.

The mech designs reflect the nature of their abilities - the Marsh Strider's long legs allow it to move farther, while Odin's Wrath, resembling a Viking ship, grants an additional exploring bonus. The search for and melding of meteorites provide enhanced benefits, which can be explained by the sci-fi nature of the meteorites. Each game, the tiles are randomly placed, allowing players to explore their surroundings in unique ways, creating a sense of following rumors or leads.

This sequel to Scythe sends players on a new adventure into Siberia, where a massive meteorite has crashed near the Tunguska River, awakening ancient corruption. However, it is not necessary to have played Scythe to enjoy Expeditions, as it is a standalone game set in the same world.
